Hang in there and stay strong, Jackie! Know that there will be many more good days and bad for Grace, and you will just have to coast through the bad ones.
Have you been able to get some holding time? You might be intimidated to ask because of her critical condition and all the equipment that is attached. But when you get a very experienced nurse and when Grace's condition gets more stable, ask to "hold" her on a pillow on your lap. The other alternative to "holding" is to do it on the giraffe warmer by sliding your hands under her bare back. When Guy was in the CTICU, his sats, heartrate and bp would be great whenever we held him. Even under the myriad of sedatives, he knew!
Please take care of yourself and thank you for including me in your blog.

I agree with Katherine. When Jake was there at UCSF we never asked to hold Jake until we were told we could. I have heard that it can be very beneficial to make that connection. Even if they say no and you just get to hold her hand...that helps more than you know. Our prayers are with you. Stay strong.
